I wanted to share my hands down favorite tea biscuit recipe with you - it never lets me down!<br />
<br />
<u>Tea Biscuits</u><br />
<br />
2 cups flour<br />
<br />
4 teaspoon salt<br />
<br />
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar<br />
<br />
3 teaspoon sugar<br />
<br />
1/2 cup shortening<br />
<br />
Process the above ingredients in your food processor until coarse, then dump the mixture in a bowl and make a well in the center. Add 3/4 cup milk and stir together. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Remove from bowl and knead on a floured surface until smooth. Once kneaded roll out dough with your rolling pin to a 2" thickness and cut with biscuit cutter. <br />
<br />

<br />
Place on pan and bake in 400* C oven for 10 minutes.<br />

<br />
<br />
These are so good with a bit of butter and a cup of tea (or coffee)!<br />
<br />
Have you done any baking lately? Do you prefer to cook or bake?<br />

We are one day closer to the weekend!<br />
<br />
It has been a while since I wrote about any progress at our cabin, so today I wanted to write a bit about what has been going on at Long Lake. <br />
<br />
We have chosen the location on the property where we are going to build the cabin, and have cleared some of the land on the property. Since it is really busy on the home front right now with several projects on the go, items needing our attention we decided to wait until fall to get started on the building process with our fingers crossed that we will be roof tight by winter.<br />
<br />
The land, where we will be building our cabin is across a brook, so our only access to the property is by boat, helicopter, rubber boots and balance or a bridge. Since we don't have any helicopters at our disposal and I have zero balance on a good day, we decided we would have to build a bridge. Nothing fancy - just a basic, walking bridge that allows us to get across the brook without a soaker and haul building materials across.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh23YizMlotm4pWL34i1abTeogoeOO1qwwS3kULR3-1CZQSVqkeCYoQg_hR1qRgsfo5yHAzO8z8yoc5qqQNtcPYJq_MhPf0nMao2URVsGRCOu6rCNQmoD8Oyd0ajVrSxyOoLTYyc4afODs/s1600/637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh23YizMlotm4pWL34i1abTeogoeOO1qwwS3kULR3-1CZQSVqkeCYoQg_hR1qRgsfo5yHAzO8z8yoc5qqQNtcPYJq_MhPf0nMao2URVsGRCOu6rCNQmoD8Oyd0ajVrSxyOoLTYyc4afODs/s320/637.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
We started the bridge building process by using two telephone poles that were on the property brought out by another member of the family originally for use in another project. They fit the bill perfectly. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKL4uXMBtOkQ_hwsTH4IRbBCurzh3Oal4jrDWYDs8xKwnNtQ_1mT0vf6GM79PhmMF6RDZ-ttMHh8zPJbXHsyDI1-bnZF6VOl_cdaT_yailgqb9fxVLqWBdQclyKffXSOKoGNfOerZ9xI/s1600/641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKL4uXMBtOkQ_hwsTH4IRbBCurzh3Oal4jrDWYDs8xKwnNtQ_1mT0vf6GM79PhmMF6RDZ-ttMHh8zPJbXHsyDI1-bnZF6VOl_cdaT_yailgqb9fxVLqWBdQclyKffXSOKoGNfOerZ9xI/s320/641.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OMbbErLrw3g/Uds-Uiek_uI/AAAAAAAABZE/a98z8qwb-Ik/s1600/643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OMbbErLrw3g/Uds-Uiek_uI/AAAAAAAABZE/a98z8qwb-Ik/s320/643.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
We used boulders that were in the brook and added a few cinder blocks as supports for the far end of the poles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQRRVkCtua5OITTWfhkkzzvt2F-kCbFZ69twt4lpcdfD72sdmtdLzLg23kcPI5zOFDPzj7nsDwm6fRQqJ2EXKNo_wb0XEsAPM7vs1lARvXPRufXeQCVJOHoziWUbLkuKXvTFNDn2asPEw/s1600/125.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQRRVkCtua5OITTWfhkkzzvt2F-kCbFZ69twt4lpcdfD72sdmtdLzLg23kcPI5zOFDPzj7nsDwm6fRQqJ2EXKNo_wb0XEsAPM7vs1lARvXPRufXeQCVJOHoziWUbLkuKXvTFNDn2asPEw/s320/125.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once we had the poles as level as we could get them, we measured and cut lumber to length for the walking surface of the bridge. Using a chalk line, we kept the wood as straight as possible and spaced them approximately two inches apart.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYQOlBh0X5Xxki96BZp_L_aK9t1k3_ksOkaqYX-Urd4hjOs6pwpvsBLc-pRfBtLyCmcq1ghc2NXLySOyreycwmmlIrOXdObteAloTtushgE8Cw04d7Ch5qhzK5hhSbXxEC_u4A6Z__LTQ/s1600/086.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYQOlBh0X5Xxki96BZp_L_aK9t1k3_ksOkaqYX-Urd4hjOs6pwpvsBLc-pRfBtLyCmcq1ghc2NXLySOyreycwmmlIrOXdObteAloTtushgE8Cw04d7Ch5qhzK5hhSbXxEC_u4A6Z__LTQ/s320/086.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fYP7VPDs-Vw/UdwCIBa5kbI/AAAAAAAABbI/_UpaIoQm0qM/s1600/103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fYP7VPDs-Vw/UdwCIBa5kbI/AAAAAAAABbI/_UpaIoQm0qM/s320/103.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since the span for the bridge was over 80' the telephone poles were able to reach less than halfway. We then had to cut and fall two large trees to complete the rest of the bridge.<br />
<br />

<br />
Because the trees were so heavy, there was no way we could lift them, so we wenched them into place using our Yamaha Rhino and a pulley system.<br />
<br />

<br />
It was a very tiring job wenching and prying while standing and balancing on boulders and rough terrain. Because everything was planned in advance, and the proper equipment was being used, the whole process went quite smoothly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYrO1_EK9zKLT391vFsv6XQ-zj-XSVB0fc4REooJ3aHL4zvaTKFcUoKgxyENlK3Wi4IdQ0nT9Xogbj-PURHW1zB15NpfUndlUjecupNCNqG5qWPdt14PyaRn8IiG3J8cnJOi6IfjCz_PE/s1600/086.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYrO1_EK9zKLT391vFsv6XQ-zj-XSVB0fc4REooJ3aHL4zvaTKFcUoKgxyENlK3Wi4IdQ0nT9Xogbj-PURHW1zB15NpfUndlUjecupNCNqG5qWPdt14PyaRn8IiG3J8cnJOi6IfjCz_PE/s320/086.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
MacGyver is exhausted from all the bridge building but clearly gives the bridge his seal of approval.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6AM6PgNO0ls/UdwdzBCgLtI/AAAAAAAABdQ/53QrzMCp51c/s1600/047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6AM6PgNO0ls/UdwdzBCgLtI/AAAAAAAABdQ/53QrzMCp51c/s320/047.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We built the bridge in such a way to not impede the flow of the brook, using rock, cinder block and raw wood for materials. If the bridge has to be removed in the future for whatever reason, we will be able to do so without any damage to the land.<br />

I hope you have some fun plans for the weekend with a bit of time to relax thrown in too!<br />
<br />
Last weekend we made our weekly trip to our local Home Depot and while there I purchased three planters that were on sale for half price, some Miracle Grow potting soil that was also half price and three herb plants - cilantro, basil and oregano. Total cost including taxes $ 29.03.<br />
<br />
I finally had the time last evening to plant them. I really enjoy cooking and I find fresh herbs really add flavor and depth to any dish. Nothing beats adding fresh herbs that you have grown into your soups, casseroles, salads, etc.<br />
<br />
Last year I planted <a href="http://kellydayinteriors.blogspot.ca/2012/06/i-love-herbs.html">herbs</a> indoors and they were an epic fail. Where I located them didn't get a lot of sun so they died. Lesson learned - herbs need lots of sun to survive!<br />
<br />
I simply filled the pots with potting soil and loosened the root ball . I put the plant in the soil as close to center as possible, covered the base with soil and watered them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UFYAH_r1E0w/UdbfWkzYGqI/AAAAAAAABYk/33kNRPLM0ho/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UFYAH_r1E0w/UdbfWkzYGqI/AAAAAAAABYk/33kNRPLM0ho/s320/036.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The deck gets full sun so the herbs should thrive there wonderfully and I placed them in a location on the deck just off the kitchen for easy and quick access while I am cooking.<br />
<br />
Have you planted any herbs this year? Did you put them in the ground or in a pot?

These sources of inspiration can help if you are designing the home or cabin from the ground up or if you have blueprints and are simply looking for a few ideas for decorating. If you are working with a designer or contractor it is always nice to have some visuals to show the professional what style you favor.<br />
<br />
Here are a few exterior cabin images that I am smitten with:<br />

<br />
We will be designing the cabin ourselves and have decided upon an A - frame style with a loft. We want something with a small footprint that blends with our surroundings not detracts from the rustic and remote nature of the land.<br />
<br />
This Spring we built the bridge, and cleared the land where the cabin is going to be built. The plan is to start the building phase this fall and fingers crossed - being roof tight winter. <br />

It has been raining a lot here in Nova Scotia this past week but I was still able to get a bit of gardening in. Since spring has sprung and as the temperatures creep up, I have been itching to get my hands dirty and plant stuff!<br />
<br />
As perimeters for our garden beds we use wood 4 x 4's. I would love to replace them with stone but it is simply not in the budget right now. To help preserve the wood and make it look more attractive, I apply a stain to the wood once a year in the spring.<br />
<br />
We like Thompson's Water Seal in Honey Gold. I am a fan of this stain for three reasons: its inexpensive, you can pick it up off the shelf at your local home improvement store and it is really east to apply.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYo7odSQyRuCNnqlUYMRw83BysqrWJcL99DcOi1GAijIPSWLJOm-q9SX8RZdkES66gmWUj6Ou3ne2oa0FL6wWgSvCMMLN88YnKJgOk66kWr8pw2gDP1dTCDc02lhwORb0TttONu2O3E8/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYo7odSQyRuCNnqlUYMRw83BysqrWJcL99DcOi1GAijIPSWLJOm-q9SX8RZdkES66gmWUj6Ou3ne2oa0FL6wWgSvCMMLN88YnKJgOk66kWr8pw2gDP1dTCDc02lhwORb0TttONu2O3E8/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Because I only do this chore once a year and its not easy stuff to clean up, I make a stain holder out of an empty water jug. It has a sturdy handle so it is easy to carry and hold and is readily available in our house since we buy our water. It also easy to dip and wipe the access the stain off the brush. I also use these for paint holders around the house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPJ931ETHFtwh_6Zcg-byCqNCjliyR8SEKA2BIXVJleU2l6V2KToHgLbEsO95F2bYWgtrY9L6zbRDP0bnS2FfUQ35tW1FwhuBYzZDupj_qNhY7qiAvD03buYCR504ORA0Ph54c8QdYGMU/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPJ931ETHFtwh_6Zcg-byCqNCjliyR8SEKA2BIXVJleU2l6V2KToHgLbEsO95F2bYWgtrY9L6zbRDP0bnS2FfUQ35tW1FwhuBYzZDupj_qNhY7qiAvD03buYCR504ORA0Ph54c8QdYGMU/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I simply cut a hole along the smooth plastic of the jug keeping the handle intact. Dispose of the cut portion and fill the container with stain. When finished staining, I toss the brush and container in the trash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_UOqB6TX8eL5JHMqy3weGL1ZbHVjxRHBAcNnGY57u855EzRoj-8jfoLvrcYhoZkBp9JCfdd0PZz7L_6t9Ux1f6mFSCYCzpyMqNxmXnO5pWIFdKIW5RIw6RezmepBnOZJtz8nnqKxWS_g/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_UOqB6TX8eL5JHMqy3weGL1ZbHVjxRHBAcNnGY57u855EzRoj-8jfoLvrcYhoZkBp9JCfdd0PZz7L_6t9Ux1f6mFSCYCzpyMqNxmXnO5pWIFdKIW5RIw6RezmepBnOZJtz8nnqKxWS_g/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-szs12nBscM8/UbhZQQL328I/AAAAAAAABWk/hemdT_4KNs4/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-szs12nBscM8/UbhZQQL328I/AAAAAAAABWk/hemdT_4KNs4/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So, after the beds are weeded and fresh mulch is applied, I bring out the stain and apply it liberally to the wood with an inexpensive stain brush. <br />
<br />
Here are a few before and after images of the wooden garden perimeters.<br />

Notice the water beading on the wood in the above after picture? Before I applied the stain the water soaked right into the wood. Not anymore! <br />
<br />
There is certainly a bit of sweat involved in applying the stain since we have 10 beds now and counting, but I appreciate the peace of mind knowing that the wood is protected for another year, and its one more item we can mark off our to do list!<br />
<br />
Have you been staining any wood around your home lately?<br />

Hope your week is going well so far. We hosted a dinner party on Sunday for Mr. RSH's birthday and I am still recovering from the food coma. It was a great evening with wonderful company and conversation. Did I mention Carrot Cake?!<br />
<br />
I have been really drawn to rooms with blue and white color palettes lately. This is a bit odd because although I like the color blue, I am very particular about which ones. I have always preferred mid to dark toned blues such as Admiral Blue by Benjamin Moore or Warm Spring by Behr. <br />
<br />
Now seeing how beautifully these designers executed the designs in these spaces, with various shades of blue - I'm converted. All shades of blue are welcome in my home!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdcoB9t8RsM_aP3CYAg6r9hqC4CGYS9bpiCBewrjSjgwwgcuhqFXbteidiHjiT8A2w8Vk1zSAV5AABvRF4Nv1L-BNQmM2JpXsTMeEvviVXQdmcM7Suq9iPfN7hwjgWD4vmhgP4kFvD0tQ/s320/houseandhome5.jpg" width="240" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sarahrichardsondesign.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
In this space the blue is used almost as an accent in the space against a light and airy backdrop of white walls and light toned woods.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheeXGW2awXkD3GoZM_f4lMzGKJCBEIbpfkLKqsTvDxsvwhucoyOrXJMrL8JzOUWmqRZvEbRZowtmNyK6xXlDSpKJlIlE2roWEn9vusxsh2ffPU_lq3rlJZMIa2cAPFljcNY6LiuNO4DFc/s1600/housebeautiful6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheeXGW2awXkD3GoZM_f4lMzGKJCBEIbpfkLKqsTvDxsvwhucoyOrXJMrL8JzOUWmqRZvEbRZowtmNyK6xXlDSpKJlIlE2roWEn9vusxsh2ffPU_lq3rlJZMIa2cAPFljcNY6LiuNO4DFc/s320/housebeautiful6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.housebeautiful.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Adding a pop of color such as the yellow used in this room, keeps the space light and fresh. The yellow adds a bit of the unexpected amongst the blue.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g-Qh4obUfK4/UafnCbyQjXI/AAAAAAAABTo/Ax2kX59nf6w/s1600/housebeautifulcom5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g-Qh4obUfK4/UafnCbyQjXI/AAAAAAAABTo/Ax2kX59nf6w/s320/housebeautifulcom5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.housebeautiful.com/"> Source</a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
By layering different shades of blue in a room, you achieve a very sophisticated look with minimal effort. Blue and wood tones together lend a very classic look to a space.<br />

Usually this consists of a wreath, some plants and a new area mat. <br />
<br />
This year I decided to make a moss wreath for spring and summer. I like the rustic and natural look of the moss. Last year I made a similar wreath out of fake moss that I bought at Michael's. I priced it again this year and it was way out of my budget so I thought why not collect the some real stuff ourselves - for free! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-irtBQioC7Tc/UbJe0953JwI/AAAAAAAABV0/AUSiCkofnO8/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-irtBQioC7Tc/UbJe0953JwI/AAAAAAAABV0/AUSiCkofnO8/s320/013.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So, last weekend when we were out at the cabin, we gathered some moss and brought it home. Because we had been getting so much rain, the moss was soaked with water so I spread it out on the deck when the weather was better and let the sun do its thing.<br />
<br />
The supplies I used for this wreath are:<br />
<br />
Spray adhesive (note: last year I used a glue gun and found the synthetic moss didn't hold very well.)<br />
Straw wreath form<br />
Ribbon<br />
Small nest with eggs<br />
Small bird figurine<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZq8RPx5KiAetqr_9VJHMEBEFcFsqo6DZXptYPmlpGh7B48bDPIUsN2ybFPOYF7P__R0QNwBjIKF8aw8pJ45WV7pAzzoLhb91Bcv7Y-aY4UDmTilkGvunCEe3QQ_fhe47hYSirxWZ8weM/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZq8RPx5KiAetqr_9VJHMEBEFcFsqo6DZXptYPmlpGh7B48bDPIUsN2ybFPOYF7P__R0QNwBjIKF8aw8pJ45WV7pAzzoLhb91Bcv7Y-aY4UDmTilkGvunCEe3QQ_fhe47hYSirxWZ8weM/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZslxTHYkL1M/UbJeK4ntMQI/AAAAAAAABU8/M5aisxgeKLk/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZslxTHYkL1M/UbJeK4ntMQI/AAAAAAAABU8/M5aisxgeKLk/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHdrT_nbveavuL7pA9LPXMFFmq7qe-N3G_sTObN8xWn1QV2Dv8_8ENbs-sB740fX17oxlvdDbJubyb3ruefAPBFghrz2tWzz_NGa6pIKmOqjo-DBJbv1hNvTHGykUy-rdMmH-A_-pS8B4/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHdrT_nbveavuL7pA9LPXMFFmq7qe-N3G_sTObN8xWn1QV2Dv8_8ENbs-sB740fX17oxlvdDbJubyb3ruefAPBFghrz2tWzz_NGa6pIKmOqjo-DBJbv1hNvTHGykUy-rdMmH-A_-pS8B4/s320/004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Because the moss was from the woods it had a bit of debris in it that I didn't want to include in my wreath such as leaves and twigs so I removed them from the moss. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pRlupRcr1o0/UbJeebf-50I/AAAAAAAABVU/fJ_UjEDNEaw/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pRlupRcr1o0/UbJeebf-50I/AAAAAAAABVU/fJ_UjEDNEaw/s320/006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I sprayed a section of moss and the equivalent size area on the wreath form. I the applied the moss to the wreath and held it there for a few seconds. I kept doing this until the wreath was covered with moss. Keep in mind the spray adhesive is quite strong smelling so I suggest doing this project in a well ventilated area or outside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVLvVcDHX6xjWXdRq0ReIYRRLGlMjYOUPhO6ClVu9GZ1RtL3mWghoPWa5nc2cTCC6YGS1xU7xBXtfv6U2GFH4uhPgEBJsQTHSmf32o2uhjpNuyfLlvrpCAsS-J9G0fH-aihPzUAv6NKt4/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVLvVcDHX6xjWXdRq0ReIYRRLGlMjYOUPhO6ClVu9GZ1RtL3mWghoPWa5nc2cTCC6YGS1xU7xBXtfv6U2GFH4uhPgEBJsQTHSmf32o2uhjpNuyfLlvrpCAsS-J9G0fH-aihPzUAv6NKt4/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihHrprkB3RfsYkgWEetu1ArGnqBawMwxc4P6k842mrdUvoYTa11OdaYzEMHDNs8Wsrshi3FQeM4n3-z3qLq1P4UBsUUrW7p5OnhYLZx-tBbeooey45MymjFpJbZrnXipKKC9Nu7ZHKidU/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihHrprkB3RfsYkgWEetu1ArGnqBawMwxc4P6k842mrdUvoYTa11OdaYzEMHDNs8Wsrshi3FQeM4n3-z3qLq1P4UBsUUrW7p5OnhYLZx-tBbeooey45MymjFpJbZrnXipKKC9Nu7ZHKidU/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I then added the ribbon and the small figurines. Although the bird had a metal clip to aide with attaching it to the wreath, I still added a bit of spray adhesive to the base of it along with the nest to ensure it would stay in place. I then used scissors to trim the wreath up a bit because the moss was a little out of control.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RTAzgJ_U6S8/UbJevpYlxdI/AAAAAAAABVs/SeeCmySqn48/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RTAzgJ_U6S8/UbJevpYlxdI/AAAAAAAABVs/SeeCmySqn48/s320/011.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the finished project. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil_B6fvIxIsDNHaWrQWqM1OfArwQz6sp3ylxrycw23C04WgWArFe-9bBiWS1QN7b5xRfRDpbGFQ8Xj-2MdWgxXt0Pi_UpZwlK7P0uYPKlBQIGYHKKmZembWezxersiLlxGRUYVUMvr-Qc/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil_B6fvIxIsDNHaWrQWqM1OfArwQz6sp3ylxrycw23C04WgWArFe-9bBiWS1QN7b5xRfRDpbGFQ8Xj-2MdWgxXt0Pi_UpZwlK7P0uYPKlBQIGYHKKmZembWezxersiLlxGRUYVUMvr-Qc/s320/010.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I am very pleased with the end result. I like how it adds a bit of seasonal interest to our front entry and best of all it was free! I simply used materials from last years wreath that I had purchased at Michael's.<br />
<br />
<br />
Have you completed or are working on any seasonal crafts or upgrades this Spring and Summer?<br />

I hope you had a great weekend. We had the most wonderful weather in Nova Scotia this weekend, and our family certainly took advantage of it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qujx6sSA3_Q/Ua57li-b_mI/AAAAAAAABUU/gUFV843W0u0/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qujx6sSA3_Q/Ua57li-b_mI/AAAAAAAABUU/gUFV843W0u0/s320/018.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We mowed our lawn, weeded the garden beds, and I stained the wooden perimeters of the garden beds. I do this every year to help protect them from the elements but I am afraid we will have to start replacing the wood if not this year, certainly next. I'll blog more about that process later this week.<br />
<br />
We went for a drive Saturday afternoon to Five Islands, NS and along the way stopped at a few antique shops and even an auction. It was Abigail's first auction and she was right at home. She found some Doctor Seuss books in a bin, grabbed "Green Eggs and Ham" and found the biggest oak tree on the property to read under its shade. It was really sweet.<br />
<br />
On Sunday we decided to visit Clam Harbour beach for the afternoon and although it was windy and chilly compared to home, we still had a great time. We had never been before, so it was a nice new experience for the family to enjoy together. Abigail played in the sand, and we helped her collect "treasures" as she calls them, from the ocean.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjICiDnIVRXj6f9mMVMMcCffSn9N2j2qztXDfj1tDAqRV-9TUXIQBzIlYS7YgVYVjiMEK4pZ6n0HOSedd76PTptqr9thABEzB9fS6HI4wfEyVPu-OxHiGy1phyp5SKu0y8eA2tR0bhh0Wo/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjICiDnIVRXj6f9mMVMMcCffSn9N2j2qztXDfj1tDAqRV-9TUXIQBzIlYS7YgVYVjiMEK4pZ6n0HOSedd76PTptqr9thABEzB9fS6HI4wfEyVPu-OxHiGy1phyp5SKu0y8eA2tR0bhh0Wo/s320/019.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It felt so nice to reconnect with the family since it is so easy to get caught up in the cycle of running one day to the next with our endless lists of to do's. Since I have been putting more focus on my interiors business, more early mornings and late nights! It is important to make the time to just be and reconnect.<br />

I hope your week is going well. It has been a busy one here trying to get yard maintenance done between the rain showers. Hopefully the weather cooperates today because I would like to spend the evening hiking with the family. <br />
<br />
Today I want to share a few ideas on how we can incorporate schoolhouse decor into our homes. <br />
<br />
<em><u>1. Chalk Boards</u></em><br />
<br />
Adding a small chalkboard in your kitchen, foyer or home office is a stylish way for the family to leave notes or reminders to each other. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN0_DMCgO2nM1MSBNF7q1W1m4BukJZuIIeQszpjzeM7QNmuuiqHvS9W52A7QLoN2Co0T3uMyr0AvnDIBybCjLIb9GOCHI2IxvIm0MuGil2l8-22Jt3JWH9DOhbpxWdDLnJcjIEG5am7fs/s1600/bloghgtvcom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN0_DMCgO2nM1MSBNF7q1W1m4BukJZuIIeQszpjzeM7QNmuuiqHvS9W52A7QLoN2Co0T3uMyr0AvnDIBybCjLIb9GOCHI2IxvIm0MuGil2l8-22Jt3JWH9DOhbpxWdDLnJcjIEG5am7fs/s320/bloghgtvcom.jpg" width="293" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.blog.hgtv.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_uFcAkMxk3UpuheyaxKbpiI0MW9tnX4-AkEqwogRg-hPvuDL2QXHt7e7gj1t-U3-MYbJkO2uQ8XVoeNvZ95vvtiRkri6UUiGnfM6fya2V3tPijeeF3XGNm3qAUjGyj3uy-pTQZIx2f04/s1600/goodhousekeepingcom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_uFcAkMxk3UpuheyaxKbpiI0MW9tnX4-AkEqwogRg-hPvuDL2QXHt7e7gj1t-U3-MYbJkO2uQ8XVoeNvZ95vvtiRkri6UUiGnfM6fya2V3tPijeeF3XGNm3qAUjGyj3uy-pTQZIx2f04/s320/goodhousekeepingcom.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
<br />
<em><u>2. Schoolhouse Furniture</u></em><br />
<br />
If you are lucky enough to find an old teachers desk or students desks in great shape - grab them! The craftsmanship in those desks were second to none with dovetailed drawers and solid wood. The teachers desks are great in a home office but you could also place one in your foyer to work double duty as a table to toss your keys, purse. etc., and conversation piece. Student desks can be added to the family room, craft room, or child's room to provide a sturdy place for children to draw and craft on.<br />

Lab stools are another way to incorporate schoolhouse in your home and also look fabulous when used as seating around an island in the kitchen.<br />

These bad boys can go from drab to fab with a coat of paint. Or you can sand them down and keep the industrial, edgy look. Lockers are great for storage and you can use them anywhere in the home for added storage. <br />

<em><u>4. Industrial Pieces</u></em><br />
<br />
Large, deep sinks often found in janitors closets are not just for commercial spaces. There are very stylish options on the market for residential applications, and when paired with a large industrial style faucet it ups the style quotient big time.<br />

<em><u>5. Lighting and Flooring</u></em><br />
<br />
Linoleum has long been the standard in flooring for schools and of course in the home as well for years. Linoleum is a gem to clean, is hard wearing, and is available in a variety of colors and styles to choose from. <br />

Schoolhouse lighting fixtures are a wonderful and practical way to add interest, personality and design to your home. You can install two or three pendants over your kitchen island, a wall mount fixture in a powder room, a ceiling mount fixture in your hall or any combination you fancy.<br />

<em><u>6. Accessories</u></em><br />
<br />
If you simply want to add a few schoolhouse pieces to your home instead of investing any large amounts for cash or floor space, simply add a few inspired accessories. Find fun and interesting ways to display maps or globes, or vintage teaching posters such as framing and displaying them as a grouping. Re-purpose lab beakers as vases. Add school bells, small clocks or typewriters on a table or if space permits, a bookcase.<br />

I am a huge fan of any shade and any tone of green -always have been, always will be. Green is such an vibrant, energizing color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BmGzZJfQlI8/UaPmFQ-KJKI/AAAAAAAABO0/lTgE7txeeJY/s1600/emerald1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BmGzZJfQlI8/UaPmFQ-KJKI/AAAAAAAABO0/lTgE7txeeJY/s320/emerald1.png" width="211" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simonedesignblog.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
This room is a showcase for the great combination of green and gold. The addition of the black in the rug, painting, window coverings and accessories give the eye a place to rest in a visually vibrant room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WJfrvVngs5I/UaPmGrIUZMI/AAAAAAAABO8/z5SYV_Cz5Go/s1600/emerald2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WJfrvVngs5I/UaPmGrIUZMI/AAAAAAAABO8/z5SYV_Cz5Go/s320/emerald2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flooringhunt.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
When using a bold pattern or color such as emerald green, I always like to repeat it somewhere in the room so it looks deliberate and cohesive. In the above photo the decorator added pattern and color in the drapes and repeated the color in the artwork above the sofa and with the chair.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4OtMBQ6IrA/UaPmKbG2tEI/AAAAAAAABPE/V0fAAYgWrLA/s1600/emerald3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4OtMBQ6IrA/UaPmKbG2tEI/AAAAAAAABPE/V0fAAYgWrLA/s320/emerald3.png" width="256" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.housebeautiful.com/">Source</a></div>
<br />
Another successful way to work with emerald (or any bold color) is to temperate it with cream and white. By adding the color through accents such as a throw or toss cushions - instead of committing to an expensive purchase such as a sofa, when the color trends change, you can keep up without a lot of work or cost.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKyrTWvZu8K6bD0OkrgFTcCxJqOx0QO-IfLgdvku4YMuLys16hhBPPdmprHnXWVwQtfAmavGrie67FOAMI84VK0iSiTFWGZ-4YMi80EBGQ9qh6HyzPcKUe4y90qukl4JBBBa1AJ2PM8v8/s1600/bungalowblueinteriorscom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKyrTWvZu8K6bD0OkrgFTcCxJqOx0QO-IfLgdvku4YMuLys16hhBPPdmprHnXWVwQtfAmavGrie67FOAMI84VK0iSiTFWGZ-4YMi80EBGQ9qh6HyzPcKUe4y90qukl4JBBBa1AJ2PM8v8/s320/bungalowblueinteriorscom.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Giving your furniture a new face lift is a great way to introduce an on trend color to your space. Applying paint with an interesting technique or pattern such as chevron in the above photo can take a ho-hum piece of furniture to another level.<br />
<br />
Although emerald is certainly another bold color of the year I don't believe it is as polarizing as 2011 choice of honeysuckle. Emerald is also a color that plays well with others such as gold, fuchsia, yellow, navy, and brown.<br />
<br />
How have you decorated with emerald? How do you incorporate on trend colors into your decorating?<br />

I have been gathering a few ideas for living room layouts with coffee tables of all sizes and types. Here are a few of my favorites.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Wooden Tables</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our old table is wood that matched side tables we bought as a set. I personally like wood tables because they are easy to wipe down and tend to look better with age and wear. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Re-purposed Trunks/Natural Fibers</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love this look which to me lends more to a cottage style. If you are not a fan of the dark tones, you can easily freshen them up with a coat of paint. This style also works well as a multi purpose furniture in a small space.</div>

<u>Fabric/Leather Ottomans</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Ultimately when choosing a coffee table as in choosing any furniture for your home it should be a decision not made in haste. Think about how your family lives, your budget and style. Go to yard sales, browse online and visit your local shops and boutiques. You never know where your next "must have" piece will show itself next. </div>

I will do a garden tour once each season so I can document how the plants change through out the year. <br />
<br />
After much discussion we decided not to build any more gardens this year. We will see what next year brings but we have lots to keep us busy now and for the summer. We were going to do a raised bed for veggies but since we enjoy going as a family to the farmers markets in the summer we decided not to build one this year. I am going to plant a few tomato plants in containers and herbs on the deck. I really enjoy making my own salsa, spaghetti sauce and tomato soup.<br />
<br />
We will start this tour on the west side of the house. These plants see mostly shade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AEMLs9olk9I/UZ0UAAfrWtI/AAAAAAAABKo/JD4C56HkAKI/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AEMLs9olk9I/UZ0UAAfrWtI/AAAAAAAABKo/JD4C56HkAKI/s320/038.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although difficult to see, there are two hostas in this bed and three bunches of yellow day lilies. I am always impressed by the size of the hostas as they grow larger every year.<br />
<br />
The north side or rear of the house. Again, mostly shade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8iqKAxaoktEWkncNmQEBbsGS2D9_Wf00GzungXc8jPjWzVwyAUXdMAoVcC3Rw96lnbZ52MCvqxJYKYAJRCze5FcUgha43uZXnAaagWa1KgQXgCAv67Jo8dvYnYZP7BkjMjuF0aXOWWw/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8iqKAxaoktEWkncNmQEBbsGS2D9_Wf00GzungXc8jPjWzVwyAUXdMAoVcC3Rw96lnbZ52MCvqxJYKYAJRCze5FcUgha43uZXnAaagWa1KgQXgCAv67Jo8dvYnYZP7BkjMjuF0aXOWWw/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These are spirea. One blooms with little pink flowers, the other with yellow flowers. These spread quite large and require pruning to keep them under control. We have another variety of spirea as a hedge along the rear property line. We assume it was planted when the building was a school.<br />

This glorious vine is a Virginia creeper and we would like to build a large arbour for it to climb on. We found her two summers ago while cleaning out the hedge at the rear of the property. We also planted shrubs at the base and in the fall it is quite a sight to see the leaves of the Virgina creeper turn bright red and the shrubs golden leaves.<br />

This is one of many garden fences Mr.RSH and I build these past few years. As you can see, they do have to be stained again. I do that once a year but since it has been raining almost everyday, I have yet to get started on it. I will blog about that process when things get rolling.<br />

Every year in the fall, since Abigail was born we plant a tree for her. Its been one of those traditions that we all look forward to doing. Now that Abigail is older and knows what is going on, she really likes nurturing her trees and going to the nursery to pick out a new one to plant. We have planted a weeping mulberry, a weeping pea shrub, a Japanese maple and another shrub whose name escapes me. It has really pretty yellow leaves in the spring that fall off to make room for green ones that stay until late fall.<br />

<br />
This is one side of the front of our house. The two larger shrubs are called barberry's and the small plant in the center is a hosta. On the other side of the front of the house we alternated barberry shrubs and hosta. As the plants grow our hope is it will look balanced. Since we put the other bed in just last year all the other plants are small in comparison.<br />
<br />
How are your plants coming along? Are you adding any new plants or gardens to the mix this year?<br />

There are several ways to achieve this, all you need a bit of planning and a few tricks that help fool the eye.<br />
<br />
1. Choosing a Paint Color<br />
<br />
Light and/or bright paint colors reflect light in a room. Dark colors absorb the light making the space seem smaller. This theory applies to furniture and cabinetry too. A light, white kitchen with white cabinets appears more spacious than a kitchen filled with heavy and dark stained cabinetry.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1BFM6OVrJshuqVT3WhzoanY72rml0PRvPqRvnB8Zb3mpE1V1FAQN8kKmiOgtqZaM3_pv36V2ZxWcwVTPaY0xcn1N2LvxpkhHlkntgIPlC5X3CAqHsg23eSpOQvRQsOusRsMrSk_g6Wc/s1600/lushomecom.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1BFM6OVrJshuqVT3WhzoanY72rml0PRvPqRvnB8Zb3mpE1V1FAQN8kKmiOgtqZaM3_pv36V2ZxWcwVTPaY0xcn1N2LvxpkhHlkntgIPlC5X3CAqHsg23eSpOQvRQsOusRsMrSk_g6Wc/s320/lushomecom.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lushome.com/">source</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Think Vertically</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Taking advantage of any vertical space you have, draws the eye upward making a space feel larger. For example replacing a long buffet style television cabinet with a tall armoire will give you the storage you need while taking up less floor space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.countryliving.com/">source</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Furniture and Flooring Options</div>
<br />
When decorating a small space one must consider scale. Choosing sofas with tailored arms as opposed to overstuffed, bulky ones and/or exposed legs on furniture to create the impression of airiness. While you are at it, make your furniture work double duty for you. A trunk can be used as a coffee table and a great place for storage. Nesting tables are a great option for side tables, or use skirted tables that you can store small items out of sight and out of the way. Do you have a large area rug in the room? The more floor that is exposed the larger the space feels, so get rid of the over sized area rug in lieu of a smaller rug or none at all.<br />

<br />
4. Mirrors, Glass and Natural Light<br />
<br />
Mirrors and glass reflect any light in a room be it artificial light from lamps or natural light from windows, therefore creating the illusion of a larger space. By placing a mirror near a window to reflect the outdoors or even adding mirror or glass to a few of your kitchen cabinet doors are very effective ways to create the illusion of a larger space. Use light or sheer window coverings that you can pull back on both sides of the window to maximise any natural light your space has.<br />

<br />
5. Organized, Clean and Clutter Free<br />
<br />
An often overlooked way we make a space feel smaller is by having lots of clutter and knickknacks everywhere. Keep similar things displayed together in one area. It provides more impact and appears less cluttered. The more organized, neat and clutter free a space is, the more spacious it feels. <br />

Do you have any tips or tricks you use to make your space feel larger? It is a long weekend here so we are headed to the lake for a few days. I can't wait to close up shop here and get out in the fresh air! How are you spending your weekend?<br />

Thanks for stopping by, I hope your weekend was an enjoyable one. We mowed the lawn, and added mulch to most of the garden beds before the rain arrived in all its glory.<br />
<br />
I tackled a project that I have been putting off for quite some time now and that was cleaning out my spice drawer. Because I enjoy cooking, and I cook most of our meals at home, I like to have spices to add to our food for seasoning and flavor. Keeping that spice drawer neat and orderly has been a bit of a challenge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n5kNV7RWFIA/UY_hd6UsdlI/AAAAAAAABGo/QoU8_lEDiFI/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n5kNV7RWFIA/UY_hd6UsdlI/AAAAAAAABGo/QoU8_lEDiFI/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Last time I was in the city running errands, I picked up a few of these glass spice containers at Bed, Bath and Beyond. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmkpwBVX7ck/UY_hrz_ZQEI/AAAAAAAABGw/cEOCYaSlSjE/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmkpwBVX7ck/UY_hrz_ZQEI/AAAAAAAABGw/cEOCYaSlSjE/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UNzc0Uj8khQ/UY_iuGy2OoI/AAAAAAAABHQ/yv5XmyuVfoM/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UNzc0Uj8khQ/UY_iuGy2OoI/AAAAAAAABHQ/yv5XmyuVfoM/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If you are planning on organizing your spice drawer and decanting some or all of your spices, ensure that the containers you use are food safe. If you are not sure, ask a sales associate - they should know. I also stopped at Staples and picked up some label tape for my Brother P-touch labeller. I love how neatly printed and cohesive everything looks when I slap a label on it :) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0hWFdDYaKoT3n_sPXoQTu98_Crdn7uadSW4XWayrXM_eDkq9nUv0eqMuqVPxBYN1J3FCx1yyvJWudqqTSQPIAJdgZ3xnHyjmLmkUxxA9XrNxzmXXd7c4oPT9mq45qhBAZserrNj3wGDo/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0hWFdDYaKoT3n_sPXoQTu98_Crdn7uadSW4XWayrXM_eDkq9nUv0eqMuqVPxBYN1J3FCx1yyvJWudqqTSQPIAJdgZ3xnHyjmLmkUxxA9XrNxzmXXd7c4oPT9mq45qhBAZserrNj3wGDo/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Generally, whole spices last 4 years, ground spices 2-3 years and dried herbs 1-3 years. If you rub the spice in your hand and it smells or taste weak it is time to toss it. Spices are supposed to have vibrant color - if yours are pale it may be time to toss as well.<br />
<br />
After I cleaned all the spilled spices out of the drawer, I decanted all the spices that were not expired and past their prime. I sanitized the glass spice jars prior to filling them, let them dry then labeled each jar immediately after filling it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPyXB-9eUcUlsJHmT1F_5ScftIXHvnk9a0m56sA7MTH-qriUyBsz9vI9ZZE6mi_qDJ0dUPqXTmJhEwotv6oaCajRTlvWznoMXqko9izRz5fmsDwTwWzHcjkIMkT-kcDBDSQLzR7DtaRQk/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPyXB-9eUcUlsJHmT1F_5ScftIXHvnk9a0m56sA7MTH-qriUyBsz9vI9ZZE6mi_qDJ0dUPqXTmJhEwotv6oaCajRTlvWznoMXqko9izRz5fmsDwTwWzHcjkIMkT-kcDBDSQLzR7DtaRQk/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am so happy with the results. Each spice is easy locate and clearly labelled. Because the spices are in glass jars I can see when I am getting low on a particular spice and add it to my grocery list.<br />
<br />
Have you started any spring cleaning or organizing around your home?<br />

We see gold used in smaller doses such as with toss cushions or lamps, but it is also used in bolder applications such as with furniture or wallpaper. <br />
<br />
Personally, I prefer muted tones of gold over the flashy tones. My all time favorite combination is gold with green however gold and black look very sharp as well. Gold seems to be one of those metals that plays well with others.<br />
<br />
As is the case many times in home decor although we love the look, how do we incorporate it into our spaces in a tasteful, understated way? I've gathered a few examples of spaces that I feel have succeeded in doing just that.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj53DLs-508aBoasPZkWAcSkaFJke8qVkxGkVhP2vjweo039u36A_k6zizqOGQupLhrOoKjelSbDrMYAg9Q4oAFw8y45IKuRhVnm5xnbtejg_mlQmgfvjBdjXOQMgJK9-oQeJ5bHJ45GYM/s1600/bhg.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj53DLs-508aBoasPZkWAcSkaFJke8qVkxGkVhP2vjweo039u36A_k6zizqOGQupLhrOoKjelSbDrMYAg9Q4oAFw8y45IKuRhVnm5xnbtejg_mlQmgfvjBdjXOQMgJK9-oQeJ5bHJ45GYM/s320/bhg.png" width="240" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Mixed metals such as the combination seen here work because the metals are repeated in the space. Notice the gold pendant over the island and the gold tone repeated in the roman shade on the window.</div>

She was so excited and couldn't wait to try it out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DvLVvwwCeFU/UYd-eyI3aTI/AAAAAAAAA_4/UkY2tdasvHA/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DvLVvwwCeFU/UYd-eyI3aTI/AAAAAAAAA_4/UkY2tdasvHA/s320/004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We went to our local store and purchased some hooks, sinkers, bobbers, etc. for her first fishing adventure. I thought you simply put a hook on the end of the line and a worm on the hook - not so. There is a lot of gizmos and gadgets need to hook those fish! My daughter is now the proud owner of her own tackle box filled to the brim with all kinds of things to catch the big one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
She even dug for worms. <br />

She didn't catch anything this time around but she really enjoyed it, I told her we can try again next weekend. <br />

While sitting on the bank Abigail looked at me and said: <br />
<br />
"Do you know my favorite thing about fishing?" <br />
<br />
I looked at her and replied: "No, what is it?"<br />
<br />
"The Quiet", she said.<br />

<br />
Macgyver is our family dog. He is a six year old Chesapeake Bay retriever and we love him to pieces. He loves to swim, run, sleep and eat - not necessarily in that order.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
During hunting season I always tie a piece of hunter orange fabric around his neck at the <a href="http://www.kellydayinteriors.blogspot.ca/2013/04/the-cabin.html">camp</a> for safety purposes. I always think how cute the bandanna looks on him, and for years I have wanted to make a proper one for him - this week I did.<br />
<br />
I found a bandanna style that I liked <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/354940014352411253/">here</a>. I especially liked the button detail but I couldn't find any large buttons that I liked so I decided just to make a basic style. <br />
<br />
See how cute he is wearing it? Notice the pose? What a ham.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIPNeztfV0V5cmkfyhWG7ve01WyVzUtvp57zk1jNDZdHsAGPRCGDsczkH_2Zmj5MX2X_MmYeIyaXl0y3m4rSSbLNnvQKV0rwDa6DUlDEBz96WXSrZCpTGuuXPzgYHMchoos1GP9supNY/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIPNeztfV0V5cmkfyhWG7ve01WyVzUtvp57zk1jNDZdHsAGPRCGDsczkH_2Zmj5MX2X_MmYeIyaXl0y3m4rSSbLNnvQKV0rwDa6DUlDEBz96WXSrZCpTGuuXPzgYHMchoos1GP9supNY/s320/011.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am not an expert on sewing. In fact I haven't even hemmed pants. I have sewn a couple of buttons on shirts and that is the extent of my sewing repertoire. Here goes nothing...<br />
<br />
To make this bandanna I went to Walmart and purchased an 18" x 42" piece of fabric, the name of the fabric is Chill by Fabric Palette. At Walmart there were two sizes of pre-cut fabric. I chose the largest of the two because Macgyver is a large dog and I wanted the bandanna to be proportionate to his size. After I measured Macgyver's neck size I had about 12 inches left over for scrap so, if your dog is smaller, the smaller size fabric will do just fine. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqkWhJotxFLlcZmndzHQweY4trYBXqsaW9U72ShoCmsOfCwSqR2DdlufqkmaJBg5pic7vlgBwsEX6mWa509CN1TjxAcF3WnAIoSvq4B7RDjqIn1QtxCEZAB39Kaj5QKIvpM4jeTk6_SPA/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqkWhJotxFLlcZmndzHQweY4trYBXqsaW9U72ShoCmsOfCwSqR2DdlufqkmaJBg5pic7vlgBwsEX6mWa509CN1TjxAcF3WnAIoSvq4B7RDjqIn1QtxCEZAB39Kaj5QKIvpM4jeTk6_SPA/s320/002.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Because all sides of the fabric had raw edges I decided to sew each one with a basic straight stitch by hand. I figured if I didn't sew the raw edges, the fabric would pull away and in a day or so there would be no bandanna left. I measured an inch around the perimeter to ensure it was even all around. I would definitely mark a straight line to follow with my needle next time to ensure I keep the stitches straighter. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSFAyparHHq6Gg7Tj7IvEBRe6ZObRak2U6QR656AyWEav3dgAyeR4yDUDpDuIFFwNKBvHREqmYPq7ZJ7SEuD4D_g_nEqK-CFhZx6geivY3vlYPppIpYoIY9hMmNxEvaU5CiCZCXGhWCQ/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSFAyparHHq6Gg7Tj7IvEBRe6ZObRak2U6QR656AyWEav3dgAyeR4yDUDpDuIFFwNKBvHREqmYPq7ZJ7SEuD4D_g_nEqK-CFhZx6geivY3vlYPppIpYoIY9hMmNxEvaU5CiCZCXGhWCQ/s320/006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After all four sides were sewn, I folded the short ends toward each other to form a triangle and used fabric glue to adhere them and then ironed any wrinkles out. I am not sure if the glue will work - I am new to this sewing thing and quite frankly this was an experiment so only time will tell. <br />

This project was very inexpensive to complete:<br />
<br />
Fabric: $ 2.50<br />
Thread and Needle: already owned (ya know from my button sewing days)<br />
Doggy : Priceless<br />

Have you sewn anything recently? What was your first sewing project? <br />

Actually, it is supposed to be warm and sunny all week - bring it on, and the sunscreen out - Abigail and I will resemble lobsters otherwise.<br />
<br />
We went to the<a href="http://www.kellydayinteriors.blogspot.ca/2013/04/the-cabin.html"> lake</a> on Saturday and spent the night. We saw an eagle again this weekend although I have been unable to get a good picture of him because I am always fumbling for the camera as he is flying away! We also have a loon on the lake which we heard on Sunday morning while enjoying our first cup of coffee of the day. <br />
<br />
I also heard the haunting bark of a coyote, watched a little brown bat catching its supper along the lake, and a porcupine waddle across a trail as we were out on our quads enjoying the beautiful weather.<br />
<br />

<br />
We were again clearing land this weekend, I will be so happy when that task is finished. It is very labour intensive to clear land by hand. Normally we will cut a tree, chunk it up and burn the brush. Because it has been so dry the past week we didn't dare start a fire so we simply put the brush in a pile to burn another time. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdMD2kMeYAR4pwbnXq5vMApSYtYM-DW0ZUnbi8WvOb_DiX4WRhZKfHBPs-kwQwj2zLxzTmTB3vDsiIaRSt7_MIIsDCy0oL0IrATw_W6Za3rcR15ZjMnYY6vwojxeeoVOVKfTtww0qUMfw/s1600/051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdMD2kMeYAR4pwbnXq5vMApSYtYM-DW0ZUnbi8WvOb_DiX4WRhZKfHBPs-kwQwj2zLxzTmTB3vDsiIaRSt7_MIIsDCy0oL0IrATw_W6Za3rcR15ZjMnYY6vwojxeeoVOVKfTtww0qUMfw/s320/051.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We may have another weekend at the lake before the bugs are out of control. We really noticed that they were around but not biting yet. The plan is to finish up the clearing of the land this coming weekend and then start building over the summer if possible depending upon the black flies and mosquitoes.<br />

Thanks for dropping by. I am sure that you are looking forward to the weekend. We will be out at the lake working on the <a href="http://www.kellydayinteriors.blogspot.ca/2013/04/the-cabin.html">cabin</a>. I'll update ya next week on the progress. <br />
<br />
It appears that Abigail has taken it upon herself to "pack" for the lake and in her back pack is the following: 1 My Little Pony, 1 crayola crayon, 1 little miss giggles book and 1 pair of socks. What a girl :)<br />
<br />
Last September Abigail was moved from her baby room to her big girl room. She simply outgrew the space that she was in with her toys and clothes. We wanted her to have lots of space and to have things organized in such a way that a four year old can easily find her toys and put them away when she was done. <br />
<br />
During the design stage of the space incorporating storage space for things such as Abigail's toys, clothes, etc. was very important. I would recommend to anyone who is in the initial planning stages of a design for a child's room to never overlook the importance of storage space - kids have lots of stuff!<br />
<br />
Here are a few pictures of the room before the redo:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIla53K0OrWdr8l6A6huLqI9VPEY4WpqYj7OthqoRKCExWmFSYWjWrzHff1U3bLW5nPzj1YkAkt7SRvvEz4G-1CkUWw5HlIbGj-klC_65MfTeTiQMNoJN_pljPN92YgD2l2heqjxKPuBU/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIla53K0OrWdr8l6A6huLqI9VPEY4WpqYj7OthqoRKCExWmFSYWjWrzHff1U3bLW5nPzj1YkAkt7SRvvEz4G-1CkUWw5HlIbGj-klC_65MfTeTiQMNoJN_pljPN92YgD2l2heqjxKPuBU/s320/022.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This room was a spare bedroom/junk room. Is it just me or do empty or occasionally used rooms seem to suck in the junk like a vacuum? It was staring to look like an episode of hoarders in there before we cleaned it out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iARJNc1WtMs/UWgDjpsn6SI/AAAAAAAAA4o/g1wx6fCh6Bo/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iARJNc1WtMs/UWgDjpsn6SI/AAAAAAAAA4o/g1wx6fCh6Bo/s320/023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There's my lonely office desk. It was too small for me to use effectively so it found a home with a neighbour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-m8Ar-x4zr2QspXBgxvhfxrkiLnU2uaGlNN2wo3iO733hCC4PFSE7lY5DOjkCk3R2qUeEBmA5yUi16wKCkXnCDX4quV_KHR5IZzxQyOS9Q3uQ6ZSF46zziN4PQsZownt9OXVirDItOs0/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-m8Ar-x4zr2QspXBgxvhfxrkiLnU2uaGlNN2wo3iO733hCC4PFSE7lY5DOjkCk3R2qUeEBmA5yUi16wKCkXnCDX4quV_KHR5IZzxQyOS9Q3uQ6ZSF46zziN4PQsZownt9OXVirDItOs0/s320/025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We have t-bar or drop ceilings throughout our home.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And here are a few pics after the redo:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZePa1XjT-jg/UWgDzSVb1iI/AAAAAAAAA5g/sRfMnlEKIjg/s1600/028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZePa1XjT-jg/UWgDzSVb1iI/AAAAAAAAA5g/sRfMnlEKIjg/s320/028.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For some the pink may be a bit strong, but since Abigail's favorite color is pink we went with it. I chose the color as I do with any color scheme for a room from a fabric. The fabric jumping off point for this room was the bedspread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6MnshJuGLtU/UWgDyKaievI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/d_7DpzebM6s/s1600/029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6MnshJuGLtU/UWgDyKaievI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/d_7DpzebM6s/s320/029.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After seeing a few reading tents on the Internet, I thought we should make one for Abigail. This reading tent is one of Abigail's favorite spaces in the room, and we have found her many times curled up on the mat and pillow in the tent with a Clifford book or two. The cubby system is great for organization. We affixed the cubby system with huge screws to make sure it was extra safe. Each fabric cubby comes with a blank label so I wrote on each one to help Abigail know where to put things. I find it really helpful when it comes time to pick up her toys before bed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir956DgA5n0gXlAF3lO5_lumkWs9dcJdpljLrtz1H5I2FokTY42hniAHMPkTrPXTG3bOMfXzO-TZTTbVO6zN_Aqi8TQd7D_5RyYKfjmSAD0_IDOXAWExUfG9ci3k8W_dB1YzsYMBb4NN8/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir956DgA5n0gXlAF3lO5_lumkWs9dcJdpljLrtz1H5I2FokTY42hniAHMPkTrPXTG3bOMfXzO-TZTTbVO6zN_Aqi8TQd7D_5RyYKfjmSAD0_IDOXAWExUfG9ci3k8W_dB1YzsYMBb4NN8/s320/030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I purchased the bedding on Ebay. I really like the bedding because it has a bit of the Pottery Barn Kids feel without the price tag! We bought all new furniture for Abigail, and we were pleased with the quality. Because we invested the money for quality now, I am hopeful that this furniture will last her for a long time. My approach when decorating any space is to use a combination of splurge and save. I want the most for every dollar I spend. In this room I splurged on the furniture and saved on the more decorative touches such as the area rug, curtain panels and making the reading tent instead of buying one.<br />

At bedtime I always tuck Abigail in , ask her what her favorite part of the day was and read her a story. We always turn this lamp on and "set" her Dora alarm clock for the next day. She keeps her "precious gifts" in the drawers such as cards she is sent from her family and friends, pictures of our family and library books.</div>

This little area in her room is one of her most active. Abigail loves to cook meals in her kitchen, and make tea parties. Being the budding artist that she is, painting and drawing on the easel is also a must do at least once a week. Every morning before she wakes up, I leave her a little message on her chalk board such as a saying or a picture. As you can see in the photo I have drawn the sun without sunglasses. There was a time when all of my drawings of suns had shades. It was a sickness - I admit it.<br />

Well there is the long overdue tour of Abigail's big girl room. It is a space that we love and look forward to her growing up in.<br />
